Our principlesWhat is LokEphem?
LokEphem is the calculation engine behind each Cofelt birth chart. It uses NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory ephemeris data and displays planetary positions to a thousandth of a degree in the Cofelt sky frame.
How accurate are the positions?
Positions are calculated from NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory ephemeris data and displayed to a thousandth of a degree. Display precision is not a guarantee of absolute accuracy or evidence that a personal interpretation is valid.
Does the precision prove anything about my life?
No. A calculated position is an astronomical result. What that configuration might mean for a life is a separate interpretation, never proof of an outcome or a prediction.
What does the calculation include?
Your local birth date and time are interpreted for the selected place, including its time zone. Planetary positions, nodes, and the horizon point are then calculated in Cofelt’s star-based reference frame. The quality of the result depends on those inputs as well as the calculation method.
What if I do not know my birth time?
Mark it approximate or unknown instead of presenting a guess as exact. Time-sensitive details, including the rising sign and houses, may be uncertain. A more precise-looking number does not remove that uncertainty.
Why can another chart show different signs?
Charts can use different reference frames, corrections and house systems. Cofelt uses a star-based frame, so a chart using a season-based frame may differ. First compare the birth date, AM or PM, place and time zone, then the calculation settings. Report a mismatch you cannot explain through Cofelt support.
