Why are DMs text-only?

Text-only is a deliberate constraint, not a missing feature.

We do allow internal Echo shares inside Cofelt. But we don't allow:

  • External links: to prevent phishing, scam funneling, traffic-driving, and the link-dropping and traffic-driving behavior that degrades social platforms. If you want to share a website, paste its name in plain text; the other person can search for it.
  • Images: to prevent unsolicited nudes, screenshots-of-screenshots harassment patterns, deepfake distribution, and the broader image-based abuse landscape that other platforms haven't solved.
  • Voice notes: to keep DMs lightweight, async, and re-readable. Voice notes also have a specific harassment vector (rage-rants) that text doesn't.

The constraint keeps DMs focused on written conversation. People can read at their own pace and think before replying.

If something belongs as a link or an image, you can send it via your usual channels outside the app. Cofelt stays for the conversation.
